In 1746, the castle of counts was destroyed in order to trace a wide avenue: the rue de Strasbourg. The stones of the castle would have been used to construct a monumental door called Royal Door (or Strasbourg door) and Canoniales houses. These are visible from No. 65 to No. 75. They form a set of houses used as housing for the canons serving the college and the church of the counts of Ligny (itself dismantled during the Revolution). The Royal Door was destroyed in 1944, three weeks after Liberation, to allow US barges to pass.
