Historic village of Louvemont, torn apart by the Great War and transformed into a fir tree cemetery.
Louvemont-Côte-du-Poivre, a village torn apart by the Great War, remains a living scar of history. Located 11 km north of Verdun, this prosperous hamlet had 183 residents in 1914, including farmers and craftsmen. The fighting in 1916 led to its evacuation and total destruction, resulting in its classification as a red zone. After the war, despite attempts to rebuild, the land remained contaminated, turning Louvemont into a pine tree cemetery.
