An astonishing washhouse, not far from Vaucouleurs, in the center of the village of Mauvages, on the Place de la Halle
A point of interest not far from Vaucouleurs, in the center of the village of Mauvages, on the Place de la Halle, stands an astonishing washhouse built in a semicircle and well worth a visit. Listed as a Monument Historique, its columns with capitals are inspired by Egyptian motifs, each punctuated at the top by a sculpted shell. The cornice, topped by an entablature and attic, features an eagle with outstretched wings. In the center, an immense cast-iron statue imagined by the artist and inspired by Bonaparte's exotic expeditions.
