LA BRASSERIE LORRAINE
History nestles in many places. Saint-Mihiel is a town with many bistros, but this one is worth the detour. Maria and Sylvie, mother and daughter, guardians of this wooden temple and old leather benches, have been welcoming you since 1967. There are the consos of the classic troquet, the small mousse or the big coffee and, if the tenancières have the tuneful conversation and the anecdote under their arm, it is in particular the room on the first floor that strikes (do not hesitate to ask for access). The size of the bar and the large bay windows in the front of the building had made us think about it, but we don't expect to come across a beautiful Art Nouveau ballroom where soldiers, peasants and the bourgeoisie danced for a long time. Very luminous, with mouldings of vegetal motifs remarkably repainted by hand for six months by the manageress more than fifty years ago, it also has the fantasy of grotesque capitals and a grotesque mascaron, a nod to the Middle Ages. An old wooden jukebox is stored there, waiting for the start of the crazy evenings, while the passing visitor is daydreaming.
