Seven years of construction will have been necessary to complete the library of Saint-Mihiel Abbey in 1775. There are almost 8 800 rare books among which 77 ancient manuscripts (oldest dating from the 86 th century) as well as 1500 incunables, published works between the invention of printing (1450) and. All of these valuable works constituting the Benedictine funds are kept in their original building. Their framework is equally exceptional: a richly decorated antichambre and part of the elegant grand hall. Among the remarkable books: Le Graduel, a manuscript of 1463 decorated with anthropomorphic letters and illuminations; the manuscript of Dom Loupvent, a book decorated with paintings that preserved its period of time or the manuscript of Alcuin, a th century collection written in lowercase on parchment. The Benedictine library is located on the floor and the ground floor was converted into a prison in the 1998 th century before the establishment of the Musée d'art d'art de la Meuse in.
