PENNSYLVANIA MONUMENT
The monument to the Pennsylvania soldiers who triumphantly liberated Varennes in 1918.
September 26, 1918 sounds like the day of deliverance for the city of Varennes. After many violent confrontations with a solidly established opponent, the 28th Infantry Division triumphantly liberated Varennes. In 1928, a monument was inaugurated, a stone's throw from the Louis XVI tower, dedicated to the soldiers of Pennsylvania, of which the 28th I.D. was essentially composed. A rectangular lawn framed by a low stone wall from Euville leads you to this imposing monument. Beyond the balustrade is the Argonne forest.
