Vauquois is a historic monument, one of the most impressive to have kept intact the memory of the mine war.

This most impressive historical monument has kept intact the memory of the so-called mine war. 14,000 soldiers lost their lives in 519 explosions. Vauquois disappeared completely. The mound, a gigantic underground anthill disputed by both sides, was organized into 17 galleries and 184 barracks rooms on the German side, compared with 5 km and a few command posts on the French side. A lunar landscape... The site is being studied and restored by the voluntary "Association des Amis de Vauquois et de sa Région".

Super visite , en plus faites sous la pluie donc bien en condition.. on peut imaginer ce que devait endurer les soldats . Le bruit le froid et la peur . On ne doit pas oublier.

Le musée était fermé lors de notre visite mais rien que la balade tout le tour de la butte mérite le détour. Pas de joie à voir ce site mais plutôt une grande tristesse pour l'enfer qu'ont vécu nos soldats. LA visite hors musée est gratuite.

Jammer dat op de site niet staat vermeld dat je rond 9 uur aanwezig moet zijn omdat ze vanaf 9:30 de groepen gaan indelen. Konden ook vooraf niet rondleiding reserveren. Rondleidingen starten dan ook vanaf half 10 tot 11 uur. Maar wij waren er om 10:40 en er was geen mogelijkheid voor rondleiding meer laatste was al vertrokken. Fransen blijven toch wel raar volk.
Wel erg indrukwekkende site waarbij je goed een idee krijgt hoe er vier jaar daar gevochten is.

Lieu inévitable pour tous amateurs de la grande guerre. Excellent accueil, visite extérieure et dans les galeries, fût très bien organisé et expliqué par le guide. Très beau musée.
