Vauquois is a historic monument, one of the most impressive to have kept intact the memory of the mine war.

This most impressive historical monument has kept intact the memory of the so-called mine war. 14,000 soldiers lost their lives in 519 explosions. Vauquois disappeared completely. The mound, a gigantic underground anthill disputed by both sides, was organized into 17 galleries and 184 barracks rooms on the German side, compared with 5 km and a few command posts on the French side. A lunar landscape... The site is being studied and restored by the voluntary "Association des Amis de Vauquois et de sa Région".

Ein beeindruckenderer Ort um den Wahnsinn des Krieges zu sehen. Das Museum vor Ort hat leider geschlossen. Jedoch kann man das Gelände auch auf eigene sehr gut erkunden.
