DESTROYED VILLAGE

In 1919, the rebirth of the village of Vaux would probably never have been possible if the Société générale des chemins de fer économiques had not obtained permission to house its agents on the site of the former village, which was adjacent to an existing railway line. In 1916, Vaux was an important objective for the 121st German Infantry Division. It is precisely this unit that is designed to reach the heights of Vaux via the plateau of La Caillette. On March 31, the village fell, following two methodical attacks. These water hammer blows were not without consequences for the Germans who suffered heavy losses between the pond and the Bazil ravine. Today, a stele commemorates the resistance of the 1st Battalion of Foot Hunters.
