THE CROSSROADS OF THE MARSHALS
This museum, one of the finest in Touraine, boasts a collection of over 8,000 works of art and objects
An astonishing open-air museum, at the foot of the ramparts of the citadel. In 1959, Malraux, Minister of Culture, offered the city of Verdun 16 statues initially intended for the Louvre. These were installed here in 1971. They are monumental representations (nearly 3 tons each) of 16 French marshals from the First Empire, the 1870 War and the Great War. Also worth seeing: the New Gate, the 17th century bastions and the entrance to the gunpowder stores.
