Small forestry train offering an authentic, bucolic ride with specific themed activities on the program

The time machine has been invented, and it's in Abreschviller! With this charming forestry train, treat yourself to an authentic, bucolic ride of 1h30 over 12 km (half an hour to go, half an hour to Grand-Soldat and half an hour back). This train, commissioned in 1885, was used to transport timber to the surrounding sawmills. At the time, the track was almost 73 km long. It was replaced by the truck in 1965. Enthusiasts have since brought it back to life, and every year 30,000 visitors climb aboard! The route winds its way through the forests of the Vosges mountains, past the old haut-fer sawmill (a sawmill with a paddle wheel powered by water) to the hamlet of Grand-Soldat, where it stops in front of the house where novelist Alexandre Chatrian (1826-1890) was born. If you wish, and for an additional charge, you can travel in the "Orient Express" carriage to experience the ambiance and luxury of 19th-century romantic travel. Events are scheduled throughout the year with specific themes: a re-enactment of an attack on the train by Indians on horseback, a trip with St. Nicholas in early December, Halloween and Easter trips, as well as farmers' markets featuring seasonal produce (blueberries, mushrooms, etc.).

Nice activity with the kids, we visited on Easter Sunday, so there was Easter bunny and on the first stop kids were supposed to look for the eggs, which was very good. Otherwise, without this activity, I am not sure it would be worth.
Beware, when you book the tickets online, doesn't matter you book the place, you still have to go to office and buy the tickets. This information was nowhere on the page and it caused a lot of misunderstandings and chaos. Finally a lot of people left angry because there wasn't enough place for everyone who booked the tickets in advance.
