Castle of the XIIIth culminating at 292 meters and dominating Baerenthal, a section of wall of the keep and rooms cut in the rock to see
Rising to a height of 292 metres above the village, Ramstein Castle was built in the 13th century. The name of one of its owners, Henri de Ramstein, is first mentioned in 1291. The castle's existence, however, was short-lived. The lords of Ramstein had become robber knights, and were summoned to appear before the lord of Lichtenberg to answer for their misdeeds. They decided not to appear, and their castle was almost completely destroyed by the troops of the Bishop of Strasbourg during an expedition in 1335.
