17th century castle with unusual furniture and paintings, in the heart of an estate with a rich flora and a 3 x 9 hole golf course
Preisch Castle was built in the 17th century; from the one that preceded it and was destroyed in 1680, it only survives as a moat. From 1850 onwards, it became the property of the Gargan family. Then it undergoes several phases of modifications. Today, the visit invites you to enter an astonishing universe, and to discover many unusual pieces of furniture and paintings... In the heart of an estate steeped in history stretching over nearly 170 hectares, the castle shares the spotlight with other monuments: the neo-Gothic chapel (listed as a Historic Monument) built by a Messinian architect named Jacquemin. The Preisch estate is also a natural area populated by an incredible flora (magnolias, purple beeches and bald cypresses...). During your walk, you can stroll through the charming "British park", where you will discover a vegetable garden, century-old woods and pastures where Hampshire sheep live... Notice to amateurs, a 3x9 hole golf course (about 105 hectares) is also part of the estate, the only one present in several border countries! During the season, several activities are organized in the village and the surrounding area. A good time in perspective!
