THE SAINT-GEORGES FARM
If the municipality of Châtel-Saint-Germain is known for its merovingian necropolis and its numerous archaeological discoveries on the Mont-Saint-Germain site, it is the starting point for nice walks in the area. The drive from the Saint George farm, for example, from the town hall of Châtel. At the corner of the parking lot, turn left on rue de la Côte. This small road will take you directly to the farm. Built in 1880 by a German entrepreneur named Georges Weis, it belongs nowadays to the commune of Lessy. The idyllic surroundings are picturesque. At the time, the farm remained, isolated, in its green landscape. Its owner could live in quasi-self-sufficiency, since it produced only the necessary to live (meat, vegetables, wine and bread). After several years of research, he even discovered a source of water on the Hauts highlands! Also, the Sainte-Georges farm had become a model of its kind, both in terms of techniques and exploitation, and on the livestock system.
It alone provided the services of the army and all the dairies in the city of Metz. The walk ends in the small streets of Lessy. But don't worry about going through the summer with strong heat, the ascent to the farm would be devastating, because it climbs anyway!
