The hamlet of Morlange houses a jewel of Romanesque art as rare as surprising… The view of the chapel Saint-Nicolas-de-Morlange contrast with the industrial landscape of the Alentours valley. The small religious building was built between 1186 and 1188 by the Benedictine people of Gorze. Hence the presence (on the smallest of the entrance doors) of two coats of arms, arms of the monks of Gorze. The church stands below the hills of Du. Built in stone of Jaumont, it abounds in medieval decorations. The fantastic bestiary (mythological animals, hybrid creatures, grotesque sculptures…) contrasts with religious iconography that belong more to classical style. The finesse of the architectural lines is such that it deserves to be stressed. We have to work on the work campaign (excavations and restorations) conducted in 1939 to discover a mysterious sarcophagus (housing the skeletons of an adult and a child). The association "Friendly Morlange and its chapel" works to enhance the chapel and create a dynamic.
