SCHLOSSBERG CASTLE
Castle in the park of Schlossberg in Forbach, hosts temporary exhibitions, the park is a masterpiece of arboriculture
Located in the Schlossberg park, the castle proudly overlooks the town of Forbach. It was first mentioned in 1257, in a deed of gift to the collegiate church of Hombourg-Haut. It comprised a square keep, a surrounding wall and a palace, which was enlarged and fortified over the centuries. In the 14th century, it was transformed into a Renaissance-style fortress-palace. The round "Saareck" tower was erected in 1437; the present octagonal tower, rebuilt in 1891, offers an exceptional panoramic view of the surrounding area. It wasn't until its new owner, Gustave Adt, restored this medieval vestige in 1886. The defensive elements, the base of the square keep (8 meters high), the loopholes and the round tower are all treasures that have become part of our heritage over time. The recently restored Knights' Hall offers a glimpse of the castle's magnificence. It regularly hosts temporary exhibitions. An explosion of colors and scents, the Schlossberg park will awaken your senses. Along the way, you'll admire beech, oak and ginkgo biloba trees. The park's 80 species of trees will take you from Europe to a more exotic world. This richness makes it a veritable arboreal masterpiece, recognized by the ONF. In the midst of this green setting, musical and festive events will accompany you on your stroll.
