SAINT-SIXTE CASTLE
On the edge of the Nied, this medieval ensemble hardly resembles the original castle of origin. Built in the th century by Lord Wirich of Valcourt, the castle Saint-Sixtus was transformed into a marina in the th century before undergoing further changes in the th century. Saved from ruin, the Gehl family acquired the castle and its land in 1986 and undertook a vast project to restore the courtyard, parts and facades. Classified Historic monument in 1991, this building was designed according to an oval plane, proof of its originality. If the whole is constructed in pink sandstone, some parts are made with a local stone reminiscent of the Jaspe marble.
The six building bodies are arranged around an inner courtyard which can only be accessed through a fortified porch. Three very beautiful Renaissance-style turrets are home to stairs serving the various bodies of hosts. Inside, remarkable wooden panelling (wooden floors and ceilings). As for the halls of knights and justice, they illustrate the art of the Renaissance in Lorraine. Also discover the numerous rendez-vous that rhythm the year: Spring of Nied (entertainment on the theme of plants and the environment), Automania (exhibition of collection and exception cars) or the traditional Festival de la Rommelbootzen (sculpture workshop for "ugly" beet, lâcher…) on Halloween.
