REUMAUX CITIES

The Reumaux cities are the typical example of mining cities of the 1920s in this region of the Rosselle region, as are those of Sainte-Fontaine and Cuvelette. They were built between 1923 and 1925 in response to the influx of foreign workers (Polish, Italian, North African) who came to work in the coal mines. These last ones, in full expansion, made it possible to build 13 cities on the territory of Freyming-Merlebach. Located near the Reumaux wells, they housed engineers, employees and, for the most part, workers. From a small village, Freyming-Merlebach has become a city of 15,500 inhabitants. These cities remain witnesses to the region's industrial past. An interesting passage!
