WENDEL CHAPEL
The sepulchral chapel of the de Wendel family, located in the public garden on Charles-de-Gaulle Street, was classified as a historic monument on 25 September 1980. Built in 1853, and blessed on March 4, 1854, it is dedicated to Saint Joseph, patron saint of good death. Until then, the deceased family members were buried in the parish church. In neo-Gothic style, this building is built on two levels: the crypt below, and the chapel, which is accessed by a double stone ramp equipped with a guardrail restored in 1993. The façade is decorated with an abundance of pinnacles and niches. Inside, floors and walls are decorated with slabs and funerary plaques in memory of the members of the dynasty, including Paul François Henri de Wendel, a member of the Reichstag during the annexation of Alsace-Moselle. Today, visits to the Wendel chapel are made on request, during heritage days or through the Hayange discovery tour, "Maîtres de Forge", retracing the heritage left by the Wendel family. The outside is accessible every day of course!
