A site in Meisenthal, home to a store overflowing with objects made in the workshops of the Centre International d'Art Verrier.
It's a building with surprising architecture, combining past and present, that's sure to dazzle you from the moment you arrive. On the former glassmaking site of Meisenthal (1711-1969), art has been brought back to life. The unusual marriage of memory and modernity offers visitors the magic of a heritage enriched by the eyes of contemporary creators. The glassmaking site comprises 3 structures: the Centre International d'Art Verrier, the Musée du Verre and the Halle Verrière. After an initial visit to the reception/ticket counter/shop, you begin your tour at the Musée du Verre, which bears the traces of the local glassmaking past. You enter through a vaulted cellar that houses a projection area, before entering the exhibition room. The first room presents glassmaking techniques and know-how. A little further on, an exhibition showcases the diversity of glass and crystal production through the ages and the different artistic movements. A room dedicated to artistic glass also showcases collaborations between glassmakers and artists, from Émile Gallé to contemporary designers. Then it's on to the Centre International d'Art Verrier (CIAV)! From the mezzanine, you can watch glassblowers in action, commenting on their work! It's the perfect opportunity to discover the precise gestures of these craftsmen who are helping to revive the glassmaking tradition. The final stage of the tour takes you to the Halle Verrière, a performance hall offering an eclectic program of concerts, live arts and contemporary art. A fine example of culture at the heart of Meisenthal. As your visit draws to a close, it's hard to resist the temptation of the boutique. Here you'll find - of course - Meisenthal's famous Christmas baubles, but also a wide selection of other items: tote bags, enamelled metal mugs and stationery. Most are made in France. A bookshop area abounds with books published by the Centre International d'Art Verrier, for discovery, inspiration and dreams. Would you like to buy a Meisenthal ball as a reminder of your visit to this unique site? It will be delicately wrapped for protection. Many collectors love these balls, so don't miss the chance to start - or complete - your collection!
