CONSERVATOIRE GABRIEL PIERNÉ
Named Gabriel-Pierné in memory of its prestigious former student of Messinian origin, the Conservatoire de Musique is one of the oldest in France. Founded in 1801 by Ambroise Thomas's father, the music school became a branch of the Paris Conservatoire in 1841 and the first branch in 1842. Today, under the direction of conductor Denis Janicot, the Conservatoire teaches over 60 disciplines and welcomes 1,300 students trained by 107 teachers. Accessible from the age of 4 (musical kindergarten), for amateurs and future professionals alike, teaching is divided into several pedagogical departments: string and wind instruments, keyboards, percussion, theater and dance. For the most gifted students (after assessment), it is possible to follow a special timetable (schooling in the morning, music or dance in the afternoon). Musical culture is also taught, as well as collective practice (orchestra), jazz and early music. Housed in modern facilities, the Conservatoire boasts a 300-seat auditorium and 65 soundproof rooms. Rigorous admission and retention procedures for young students, with frequent examinations and competitions, ensure excellent results. As a result, the Conservatoire has maintained a positive dynamic, whose national and local influence is widely recognized. The CRR also works on a European level with institutions in Saarland, Liège, Luxembourg and Amsterdam.
