CRYPT OF ST. STEPHEN'S CATHEDRAL
If the visit of St. Stephen's Cathedral is an essential stage of your messin stay, it would be a pity not to venture into the crypt. There is a small stairs on the right side of the choir. Inside, four halls arched, the last one (with tombstones) dating from the Roman era. The first one will allow you to better situate yourself in the context. For this, old plans, models complete explanatory panels telling the legend of the awful Graoully, himself suspended on the ceiling! Several statues of the th century surround the Baptistery De, facing a Mise with a remarkable printing. The following parts are home to other small cathedrals of cathedrals (Amiens, Chartres, Reims, Rouen, Toulouse…) followed by various objects of sacred art, including an illustrated Sacramentaire of the th century, as well as a bronze copy of the Equestrian Statuette of Charlemagne, famous work of the High middle ages, whose original (formerly owned by the treasure of the Cathedral of Metz) is now located. at the Louvre Museum.
