THE BISHOPRIC AND THE CHURCH OF SAINT GGLOSSINDE
The baroque church of Sainte-Glossinde whose Ionic portal overlooking the square was built in the 19th century in Metz
In the 10th century, the site was already home to an important Benedictine abbey called Sainte-Glossinde. Legend has it that the young Glossinde was the daughter of an Austrasian nobleman, and that she took holy orders as a result of the many miracles she performed... Over time, the monastery underwent numerous destructions and modifications, before being rebuilt in the 18thcentury . The Baroque church of Sainte-Glossinde and the conventual buildings we know today have been in the service of the bishopric since the French Revolution. The Ionic gateway to the square was built in the 19th century, and to its left are the remains of the former Saint-Gengoulf church, which disappeared in 1791.
