Temple built between 1902 and 1904, one of the most emblematic buildings of the city of Metz.
The Temple Neuf was built between 1902 and 1904, and the Jardin d'Amour (already existing in the 18th century) was greatly reduced on this occasion. It is one of the most emblematic buildings, even the epinal image of the city! The photographers' favorite shot undoubtedly puts it in the foreground, relegating the beautiful St. Stephen's Cathedral to the background (William II must be delighted...). The architectural ensemble contrasts sharply with the Jaumont stone style of the Place de la Comédie at the time, as the building is constructed of grey Vosges sandstone. The desire of Kaiser Wilhelm II to establish his hold on the city (and that of the Protestants at the same time) by inspiring a Germanization of the architecture is strongest. It was inaugurated by the emperor himself, accompanied by Empress Victoria Louise of Prussia and the highest authorities of the Reichland of Alsace-Lorraine. The 52-stop organ with three manuals and pedalboard in mechanical action, built by Ernest Mühleisen, nowadays serves the talents of the greatest organists and is the venue for numerous recitals. The light flooding the octagonal tower and its two bell towers, reflected in the evening in the waters of the Moselle, offers one of the most beautiful illuminations of Metz. Inspired by the cathedral in Speyer, Germany, the temple celebrates its German and French history and floods us with its past. Der Temple Neuf (deutsch: Evangelische Stadtkirche Metz) ist eine evangelisch-reformierte Kirche in Metz. Die Gemeinde gehört der Evangelisch-reformierten Kirche von Elsass und Lothringen (Église protestante réformée d’Alsace et de Lorraine) an. Die evangelische Stadtkirche befindet sich an der Südwest-Spitze der „Île du Petit-Saulcy“, der „Kleinen Weideninsel“, die von der Mosel umflossen wird.

Nous avons beaucoup écrit au sujet de la pollution lumineuse au Temple Neuf qui ne respecte pas l'arrêté du 27 décembre 2018 relatif à la prévention, à la réduction et à la limitation des nuisances lumineuses et nous sommes heureux de voir que la situation s'est un peut amélioré mais il y a encore des efforts à faire de la part de la métropole de Metz.

Et pourtant, à Ville de Metz on ne s’en prive pas.
Cette photo qui illustre mes propos à été prises à 3h du matin ce jour (j'aurais bien aimé écrire 3 h du matin cette nuit, mais avec cette quantité de pollution lumineuse c'est une jour sans fin, nous ne connaissons ni le ciel étoilé ni l'obscurité, deux facteurs qui qualifie la nuit ! Allons chercher la lumière divine !
