THE HOUSE OF HEADS
The residence of a former goldsmith, named Jean Aubry, located in the heart of downtown Metz
In the heart of the city center, opposite one of the outskirts of the Saint-Jacques shopping center, curious passers-by or attentive visitors, you can admire this picturesque sixteenth century bourgeois house. The mention of 1529, which was engraved in an ECU above a door, confirms the date of date. It is certainly the home of an old goldsmith, the name of Jean Aubry, the Fournirue being at the time, at the service of the corporation. If the building has preserved its original medieval structure (by its turn and its visible gargouille as dog), its finely crafted decor is characteristic of the Renaissance: Turret, screw staircase, trilobated arcatures, putti (dodus)… Not to mention the rustles of characters, surmounting the window windows. In total, there are five heads! If the facade contains only copies, the original faces of these gentlemen are now well protected. Four are kept at the Museum of the Court of Gold in Metz, as for the last, he stays overseas at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
