Neighborhood where you can feel a particular soul with its old stores, its oriental businesses and its friendly flea market
In the past, a watercourse was flowing on High Fit Street and this area, located on an island surrounded by two arms from the Fit, took the name. The furs worked on those banks; The street of the same name evokes the memory of this corporation and its wooden houses. In 1903, the river arm passing into the city was filled and the tanneries disappeared. Therefore, the Fit sank only outside the ramparts. This neighborhood has a unique charm. The square of the Charrons features the beautiful th century Burtaigne hotel, which stands out by its large bays and a fantastic bestiary. The name of rue Mazelle would come from the Latin macellum, that is, meat market, which would have existed in the neighborhood. Rue Vigne-Saint-Avold would witness the presence of vines. Indeed, until the th century, Apart-Fit neighbourhood was outside the ramparts and vineyards stretched over part of its perimeter. The neighborhood has always established for life. During a walk, you will feel a special soul with its antique shops (booksellers, binders, antique dealers…), its oriental shops and its nice flea on the second Sunday in September.
