ST. PETER'S CHURCH
12th century Romanesque church with a Romanesque portal that can still be seen and the machicolations are still present in Mey
The church of Saint-Pierre is a typical 12th-century Romanesque building. The interesting thing about it is that most of its architecture has been preserved! You can see its medieval origins and observe some of its more recent elements, from the late 12th and 13th centuries (the chapel). The history of the building is told within its walls. The Romanesque portal is still visible, and the machicolations - a rare sight - are still present. But it's the sculpted lintels above the openings that really catch the eye. Representing mermaids, birds or shamrocks, they sublimate the historic monument. Rumor has it that they come from a Messinian workshop already famous for other works in the Musée de la Cour (Metz). Although the building is usually closed, it is possible to visit it by making an appointment with the local town hall.
