SIERCK DOOR
The Sierck Gate, also called the Franchise Gate, is an important piece of architecture
The construction of the gate of Sierck, as well as the 700 m of ramparts still existing today, lasted from the 13th to the 14th century. It was built by the inhabitants in 1236. An important piece of architecture, this gate, also called the "Porte de la Franchise" (because it allowed to filter malicious outsiders) was defended by two round towers, still visible today. The arch connecting these two towers was destroyed on November 11, 1944 to allow the passage of the tanks of the American troops who came to liberate the village.
