ABBEY OF ST. NABOR
Abbey church with relics of Saint Nabor, statues and sculptures worth a visit in Saint-Avold
Built of variegated sandstone from the quarries of Saint-Avold, the present abbey church was rebuilt during the 18th century and houses the relics of Saint Nabor, a martyred Roman officer who gave it his name. The plans were made by Dom Léopold Durand, a Benedictine monk architect. Inside, the statues and sculptures are worth a visit, especially the altarpiece and the tombstone dating from the 16th century. The woodwork in the choir is particularly remarkable! The stained glass windows were made by the Naborian Arthur Schouler.
