HÔTEL DES SAINTIGNON
A sober hotel with a lot of decor, now a public library, both classic and rocaille, with a fountain in the courtyard.
The hotel was commissioned by Joseph-Maurice de Saintignon (1727-1806), from a noble Verdun family. Today, the building houses the Pierre Messmer Library and embodies 18th-century architecture combining classical and rocaille styles. On the façade, two fluted rocaille pilasters support a circular pediment adorned with a central medallion. Two lions stand above the pedestrian doors. The gate is closed by a grille designed by contemporary sculptor Sandor Kiss.
