SAINT-WALFRIED CHURCH
Church administered by the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Tholey in Sarreguemines
The church of Saint-Walfrid belongs to the parish of Welferding, whose origin dates back to 1221. It was the mother church of several villages before being attached to Sarreguemines. Until 1789, it is administered by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Tholey. In the 19th century, it was adorned with an Empire style facade and an onion-shaped bell tower. It houses several elements of the 15th century. Its name refers to Archbishop Walfried of York, in England, who stopped at the court of Metz to visit his friend Dagobert II, King of Austrasia.
