Picturesque and historic, the market square or Märktplaätz is in itself a strategic location in the old town. In the 19th century, it was called Place du Palais because of its location (opposite the old town hall) where the Café de Paris is now located. It is surrounded by buildings of different styles, belonging to the trend of architectural eclecticism. The German neo-Renaissance style house, with a bakery on the ground floor, dates from the 1880s and 90s. We never tire of looking at the different facades, rich in sculpted ornaments... the eye of the passer-by delights in the smallest details! As for the central fountain, it used to provide the city with running water. On market days (Tuesday and Friday mornings), the square comes to life joyfully, many local producers present their local products, seasonal fruits and vegetables... and share their passion. A moment of encounter and of course of delicacy!
