SAN MARTIN CHURCH
At the sight of its fortified tower tower and its killers, the church of Sillegny seems to us to be massive, austere. Yet its interior reveals a flamboyant Gothic style and other wonders, with its nickname of "Fit de la Fit": its walls are covered with painted frescoes of the th century. The printing given to us as a whole suggests that the authors in question (itinerant painters) would be of Italian origin. Then all the paintings were covered with a triclinia, before their rediscovery, a few centuries later. The main themes are: the legend of St Martin, the tree of Jesse (left in the choir) and the four Evangelists (Luke, Marc, Jean, Mathieu) and their attributes (bull, lion, eagle, man) on the vault.
By leaving, raise your eyes to admire Saint Christopher bearing the child Jesus (right) and the monumental Judgment Last, where Christ is judged by the end of the time. On the left, the elected representatives will go straight to heaven under the leadership of Saint Peter who holds the key. For the less fortunate, will suffer the torments of Hell! Look at the extreme right-hand cornu monster on the extreme right! Its picturesque appearance reminds us of the educational aspect of frescoes, the true catechism of images in the Middle Ages. Classified Historic monument in 1881, the church underwent restorations, thanks to the action of the parish priest and the Association de la Sistine association.
