THE MUSEUM OF THE SABOTEUR
A museum located in Soucht, accessible to people with reduced mobility, presenting a discovery of the manufacture of clogs
All in sneakers at the Clog Museum! It takes a lot of energy to consume the history of the clog in this museum located in the east of the Moselle department. For a very long time, the village of Soucht, located in the heart of the Vosges du Nord regional park, has been renowned for its clog making. A total of 40 clog makers worked there until the middle of the 20th century. Since then, only one clog maker in Philippsbourg continues this activity, which is now oriented towards decorative clogs. But "clog" does not mean "old-fashioned". Indeed, the new building inaugurated in 2010 has something to surprise with its contemporary architecture, mixing fluid lines and wooden materials, all built in respect of the environment (High Environmental Quality). In addition to the exhibition of tools and machines, you can discover the making of a clog, but also the collection of more than 200 clogs from the regions of France and other countries, a video film, and even a song of the clog makers. You can also take a tactile tour with the "kit à toucher" (kit to touch) available on reservation. Funny detail, you can even visit the museum in clogs (free loan)! You can picnic on the area located at the edge of the forest, at the edge of the village. Animations are on the program every year. The museum has focused on the accessibility of people with disabilities, thus obtaining the label "Tourism and Disability". An attractive visit of our heritage and the art of a craft know-how!
