Fortified group designed to accommodate three to four infantry companies in Thionville

This fortified group was built by the Germans between 1899 and 1906. As a high strategic place during the Annexation and then absorbed by the Maginot Line, the fort bears witness to the history of Franco-German conflicts as much as to its effectiveness through its organization and equipment. Originally, its strategic position was to defend the railroad junction of the second city of Moselle against any French attack. Nowadays, it has no military vocation, but the amicale of the fortified group of Guentrange and the city have allowed its renovation and its transformation into a place of memory.

Opening time and information on GUENTRANGE FORT

Closed from October to April. Open from May 1st to September 30th. Visits on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 3 pm. Bring warm clothes. Adult : 5 €. For groups, the fort is open all year round by appointment.

Hace unos días visitamos este magnífico lugar. Tuvimos la suerte de hacer la visita guiada con Ben, un joven voluntario, que se esforzó por hacernos la visita entendible y amena. Bravo por él. Además, todo el personal, es muy amable. El Fuerte está magníficamente conservado, y muestra una parte de la historia que todos deberíamos conocer. Recomendable al 100%. Muchas gracias por todo.

Très belle visite, intéressante, les galeries à l'intérieure de ce fort allemand de 1899 et à couper le souffle ! Avec un important casernement centrale et deux autres casernements au total une garnison de 2000 hommes pour l'époque, voilà qui justifie plein d'anecdotes que les guides bénévoles vous expliquerons avec passion ! A voir absolument !
