ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH
Located away from the village of Valmunster, further south, on a small hill in the country of Nied, this Romanesque church of the th century has a magical charm! Its rustic appearance (with its exterior foothills) echoes the surrounding countryside. A true jewel of Romanesque art, the building, despite numerous transformations, remains the oldest church in the country of Nied. Once inside, the pillars are arranged in such a way that it gives a sense of lightness. Only the Gothic vaults are striking the whole. This church, of "hall type" with three naves, consists of spans, a oculus, a tribune and font baptismal novels. Classified as the historic monument, major restoration works in the interior of the building (consolidation of the structure in particular) were carried out at the end of the th century. The man who was at the initiative of these projects and deserves to be quoted was Father Gabriel Weyland, pastor of the parish of Valmunster. From 1965 to 1989, he devoted himself to the protection of this small church.
