MONEY HOTEL
A rare flamboyant Gothic-style hotel dating back to the Middle Ages and listed as a historic monument.
Located in the heart of Vic-sur-Seille, the Hôtel de la Monnaie is one of the rare buildings dating from the Middle Ages in the town. Built in 1456, this flamboyant gothic style building is very elaborate and presents the first architectural elements of the Renaissance with its lattice windows and projecting moldings. It was following a conflict between the town's burghers in 1234 that the bishop of Metz, Jean d'Apremont, and his successors chose to settle in Vic. The presence of salt, a real white gold of the local subsoil, represented a significant source of wealth. They reigned there until 1648 (Treaty of Westphalia) which gave the sovereignty of the three bishoprics to the French crown. In 1905, it was classified as a historical monument by the German authorities during the French annexation. On April 26, 1910, Kaiser Wilhelm II himself inaugurated the museum of local history housed within it. In 1930, the facades and roof were classified as historical monuments. Inside, don't miss an amazing fresco, more than 100 years old or this magnificent Virgin and Child!
The Hôtel de la Monnaie was restored in 2002 and 2003. It houses the tourist office of Vic-sur-Seille. It is also the headquarters of the conservation of the Georges de La Tour museum. Information on the history of the place and the good addresses of the surroundings will be given to you. Moreover, in the building, an adjoining exhibition room presents creations of local artists!
