Taking on the spirit of a collector's cabinet, this museum particularly highlights two major works by Georges de La Tour: Profile of a Woman, and Saint John the Baptist in the Desert. Born in Vic-sur-Seille, Georges de La Tour was the greatest painter of Lorraine in the 17th century. Built on a singular site, indeed it is an old house of the eighteenth century, the museum that serves as a showcase is a property of the Departmental Council of Moselle. Labelled as a Museum of France, it reveals an astonishing contemporary architecture, signed Vincent Brossy. Its collections were enriched in 1998 by the exceptional donation of the brothers Jacques and Guy Thuilliers, a total of 82 paintings! The three floors of the museum cover the art of European painting from the 17th to the early 20th century (Jacques Stella, Bertholet Flémal, Charles Le Brun, Sebastiano Ricci, Jans Fran van Bloemen, Joseph Bidault, Camille Corot...).
In order to offer you a more contemporary approach, and to seduce also the youngest, digital technology has made its entrance in this space dedicated to the oils of the past. From now on, you will discover the museum from another angle, in 360°. Equipped with a headset and a joystick, you will discover or rediscover these paintings of masters because you will be actor of this ARTelier and will scrutinize the many details of a painting. You will have the choice between three courses... An original and original way to discover the famous painter!
