THE FIELD OF ROCKS

The Champ des Roches or in other words the Chaos de Pierres has always attracted passers-by. Large granite blocks, in the order of one metre, are arranged to form a rectangle measuring 400 metres by 40 metres. How could these stones of several tons be transported on this plateau overlooking the valley of the Vologne? This accumulation of blocks intrigues and leaves room for several hypotheses: men have piled them up, glaciers have transported them and deposited them... An urban legend tells us that this clearing was once the place where witches went to make their Sabbath and that one day the priest of Grange-sur-Vologne invoked the patron saint of his church who petrified the witches and that the Roches field appeared just after. Everyone will take the version they like.
