BEAUFFREMONT CASTLE
Castle with a distillery where high quality liqueurs and eaux-de-vie are produced
Beauffremont was one of the most imposing castles in Lorraine with its 18 towers and two enclosures covering more than four hectares. The fortress dominates the whole country between Moselle and Meuse, on the borders of the Vosges. Its name comes from a king of the Burgundians, the legendary Bowermund, who decided to be baptized after the battle of the Catalan fields. He allegedly had a fortified town built there not far from the Roman road Trier - Lyon. Many remains attest to the very ancient occupation of this castle. The chapel has recently been renovated. During the summer, volunteers come to participate in the site's renovation work. During your visit, you can also admire the distillery. Located in the old outbuildings, it produces high quality liqueurs and eaux de vie.
