Domremy-la-Pucelle, the village where Joan of Arc was born, has paid tribute to her every year near her birthplace since 1920.
The national holiday in honor of Joan of Arc has been held on the second Sunday in May since 1920. Domremy-la-Pucelle, the village where the woman nicknamed "La Pucelle d'Orléans" was born, pays homage to her near her birthplace, in the presence of civil, military and religious authorities, surrounded by the local population and, in particular, the local girls known as "Les Jeannettes". Not-to-be-missed events: 10:30 mass at Saint-Remy church; 11:30 wreath-laying at the Monument Mercier; 15:30 pontifical mass at the Basilique du Bois Chenu.
