BASILICA OF ST. MAURITIUS
The Saint-Maurice basilica was classified as a historical monument in 1846
The Basilica of Saint-Maurice was erected by Bishop Gérard de Toul in the 10th century and is apparently located on the site of the city's first church. It is all covered with sandstone and was classified as a historical monument in 1846. Its construction was completed in the 13th century. Consecrated in 1051 by Pope Leo IX, it was elevated to the rank of minor basilica in 1933. Outside, the portal of the Burghers is worth seeing, as well as the towers, the gargoyles and the rich sculpted ornaments. Don't miss the 14th century Virgin with the Rose.
