CONTIS LIGHTHOUSE
This lighthouse offers an exceptional panorama from the top of its 183 steps
The only lighthouse in the Landes region was built in 1862 by decree of Napoleon III, almost a kilometer from the ocean on a 12-meter-high dune! And with its 38-metre tower, it raises its lantern 50 metres above sea level. From the top of its 183 steps, the Contis lighthouse offers an exceptional panorama. First put into service in 1863, it was lit by a mercury lamp and is now lit by a halogen lamp. Reservations (off-season) and information from Saint-Julien-en-Born town hall.
