ST. PETER AND FOURIER BASILICA
Basilica Saint-Pierre-Fourier offering the opportunity to visit the museum to discover the rare remains of the old church
The splendid Basilica Saint-Pierre-Fourier, inscribed in Historical monuments, is just two kilometres from Mirecourt, in the centre of the village of Mattaincourt. It is one of the greatest Gothic basilicas in the region and dates back to the th century. The basilica was built in 1853 for the canonization of Pierre Fourier on the location of the former church of Mattaincourt where he had been. You can discover the magnificent stained glass windows of Gabriel Loire's workshop and the relics chapel on the right of the choir. It is also an opportunity to visit the Saint-Pierre-Fourier Museum, which includes, among other things, the rare vestiges of the old church that was that of the Fourier priest: clé, capitals and an altar top of the th century, a bell of Mattaincourt hospital which was founded in the late th century, partly on a donation by inheritance of a nephew of Saint Pierre Fourier.
