Ecomuseum in Ville-sur-Illon famous for its pure water when the brewery was created in 1877, tasting during the visit.

By visiting the ecomuseum, you will learn about the history of the site. Jacques Lobstein, son of an Alsatian cooper, born in Brumath, left his region after the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine in 1870 by the German Empire. He was hired at the Brasserie de la Cense in Xertigny as a young brewer where he learned the trade, and then became the owner of the Brasserie de l'Hôte in Ville-sur-Illon in 1877. The purity of the water made the village famous at that time, a major asset in beer production. In 1887, he created La Grande Brasserie et Malterie Vosgienne. It was his son René Lobstein who took over the company, who gradually stopped producing beer in 1956, malt in 1966 and soft drinks in 1975. At the end of the visit, you will be offered a free tasting, which will complete this authentic moment.
