The castle of Léran built in the th to be a defensive fortress, was severely damaged during the wars of religion. Restored in the th, by a disciple of the famous architect, Viollet-le-Duc, the French gardens are very old. This castle, now private property, was the residence of the Lévis de Mirepoix until 1981, the date of the disappearance of the Duke Antoine de Lévis-Mirepoix, historian of the French Academy.
