Site constituting a migratory stopover and a place of reproduction privileged for the ornithological fauna.
The site is magnificent and unique in the Midi-Pyrénées. Spread over nearly 100 hectares, it is a migratory stopover and a privileged breeding ground for ornithological fauna. Every year, in spring and autumn, tens of millions of birds fly over the Pyrenees to reach their destination. This estate is a resting and restoration area on the way to their migration. On this wetland with its 30 hectares of lakes, nearly 160 bird species have been listed, the first place of observation in Midi-Pyrénées. Here is a care centre for birds that have been injured. When they are fit, they are reintroduced into the wild. 6 km of paths have been created to allow you to observe white stilts, grey cranes, gulls, mallards... Two observatories have been set up to watch for the comings and goings of birds and a video surveillance system allows you to follow the evolution of the birds on a giant screen. Binoculars, spotting scopes and other equipment allow you to get up close and personal with the birds on the estate. A guide provides all the necessary explanations. It is of course recommended to walk around the lakes. There is also an aviary where white storks are bred for reintroduction. Visit a small farmers' museum, a barn with old agricultural and domestic tools as well as a conservatory orchard and a restored dovecote. Guided tour with lunch at the farm, or sleep on site at Domaine de Garabaud.
