ST.ANTON'S CATHEDRAL
Cathédrale Saint-Antonin de Pamiers, simple yet majestic, with a single nave, Romanesque portal and bell tower
All that remains of the 12th-century building is the Romanesque portal, decorated with historiated capitals depicting biblical scenes and a bas-relief depicting the first martyrdom of Saint Antoninus. In the 14th century, the Mercadal church was enlarged and strengthened, with the addition of a bell tower. The top floor was not added until 1426. The single-nave edifice is both simple and majestic. Highlights include the interior woodwork, tapestries, paintings and silverware that were to give it its prestigious character, and the great organ from the Daurade in Toulouse.
