COMBELONGUE ABBEY
Abbey in Rimont, one of the rare Premonstratensian abbeys in the South of France, an address full of history.
One of the rare premonstratensian abbeys of the Midi. Founded in 1138 by the Count of Pallars. A rich and prosperous abbey until the 14th century, it counted about a hundred religious. From 1446, a long series of trials led to its decline. During the Revolution, it was pillaged and burned. In the context of the Ariège, Combelongue Abbey has many particularities: built entirely of brick in a region where stone is abundant, it mixes, in this unusual material, a decoration of the first Romanesque art with forms that recall Spain.
