Classified as a historical monument and labelled as a remarkable garden, the castle of Bournazel, in the Alzou valley, has been admirably restored.
This beautiful Renaissance castle, built between 1545 and 1560, has been the subject of a major restoration campaign, including the restoration of the monumental grand staircase. On the main facade, windows, pilasters, columns, pediments and friezes balance each other out, while on the other wing the references to Antiquity appear more openly. Inside, there is an important collection of paintings, furniture and sculptures from the 16th and 17th centuries. The garden, classified as a Remarkable Garden, is one of the rare examples in France of Renaissance landscape composition.
